1. Smartphone with someone trapped inside: This is a fun trick that you can do with your smartphone. It works as a parlour trick for showing your friends. What you have to do is have one of your friends press up against a glass window or panel of some kind. Then click a picture of them. You can either click the picture against a solid background or edit the picture to put a solid background. Then use this picture as your lock screen wallpaper. It makes for a pretty funny image, making it seem like your friend is trapped inside your smartphone.

2. Different vibrations for different contacts: While contact ringtones are pretty common, contact specific vibrations are part of the iPhone’s features. In iOS 7, you can simply choose a contact and edit their ringtone preferences for this. You will get vibration settings along with the ringtone settings. In the older versions of the iPhone you can access this option from the device’s Accessibility settins.

If you’re using an Android-based smartphone you can use an app called Vybe for this feature.

3. Get weather on your lock screen: The free app, Weather Lock Screen, will bring the weather right to the lock screen of your iPhone. For an Android-based smartphone you can use various widgets like Beautiful Widgets, in order to customise your lock screen.

4. Change App Icons: This is a hack meant for the iPhone. You can use a number of special applications for this, including Iconical, App Icons, CocoPPa and the most popular iExplorer. All these apps bring you a complete library of icons that you can choose for your iPhone.

5. Switch on your computer from your phone: This one is for Android users. Many would tell you that paid apps like Revolv need to be user for this. But that isn’t the only way. If you have an NFC enabled smartphone then you can do this without the apps and without rooting. You can set the NFC antenna to turn on your computer using your smartphone.
