Apple OS X Mavericks is version 10.9 of the OS X computer operating system.

New features in OS X Mavericks include inactive memory compression, enhanced support for multiple displays and iCloud Keychain, a built-in password generation, storage and security application.

OS X Mavericks debuted at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June 2013. Mavericks is named after a famous surfing location in Northern California.It is the first version of OS X that is not named after a type of cat; previous versions included Mountain Lion, Snow Leopard and Tiger. The first version of OS X, Cheetah, debuted in 2001, replacing the original Macintosh operating system, Mac OS.

BitTorrent

BitTorrent is a content distribution protocol that enables efficient software distribution andpeer-to-peer sharing of very large files, such as entire movies and TV shows, by enabling users to serve as network redistribution points.

BitTorrent's protocol has been described as a "swarming, scatter and gather" file transfer protocol. Rather than having to send a download to each customer requesting it, the distributor or holder of content sends it to one customer who, in turn, sends it to other customers. Clients share pieces of the download back and forth until everyone has the complete download. This distribution scheme makes it possible for the original server to handle many requests for large files without requiring immense amounts of bandwidth.

Bram Cohen wrote BitTorrent in Python and made it available in 2001. BitTorrent is distributed freely under an open source license.

Ogg Vorbis

Vorbis is an open source patent-free audio compression format, developed as a replacement for proprietary digital audio encoding formats, such as MP3, VQF, and AAC. The Xiph.Org Foundation maintains and oversees Vorbis and Ogg, the container format that Vorbis usually uses. The format is commonly referred to as Ogg Vorbis.

Vorbis files (.ogg extension) compress to a smaller size than MP3 files, which reduces bandwidth and storage requirements. According to many reports, a Vorbis file provides better sound quality than a file of the same size in MP3.

Chris Montgomery started the Vorbis project at MIT, but was motivated to make the format available after the MP3 codec (coder/decoder) developers, the Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft Institute, announced that they intended to seek remuneration not only for licensing MP3 encoders, but for any stream carrying an MP3 file. Because this action could put many small and/or independent Web casters out of business, Montgomery was motivated to make the free MP3 alternative available as quickly as possible.

The Ogg part of the name came from the network game Netrek. In Netrek, an Ogg is a tactical maneuver, and the word has entered broader usage to mean "doing something forcefully, perhaps without due consideration of possible consequences." The Vorbis part of the name came from a character in the book Small Gods by Terry Pratchett.

A data recovery agent (DRA) is a Microsoft Windows user who has been granted the right to decrypt data that was encrypted by other users. The assignment of DRA rights to an approved individual provides an IT department with a way to unlock encrypted data in case of an emergency.


Data Recovery Agents can be defined at the domain, site, organizational unit or local machine level. In a small to mid-sized business, the network administrator is often the designated DRA.


In very simple terms, here is how it works: The network administrator uses Microsoft Windows Group Policy in Active Directory to assign everyone a public key for encryption and their own personal private key for decryption. This ensures that users can only decrypt the content that they have created -- and no one else's. The data recovery agent, however, is assigned a private key capable of unlocking all content encrypted with the public key.


In Windows 2000, the local administrator is the default DRA . In Windows XP Professional, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 R2, there is no default DRA. Instead, the administrator must generate a recovery agent certificate which grants the user permission to access the encrypted resources. If the recovery agent certificate is created after the encryption of the resource, however, the resource cannot be decrypted by the DRA.
